What The Single Mom KC Is & Why It Matters: The Single Mom KC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that invites single moms into community, equips their families in spiritual and emotional growth, and provides resources so families can walk in restoration. By meeting practical, emotional, and spiritual needs together, TSMKC helps prevent family breakdown and empowers single-mother families to thrive right here in the Kansas City area.
Here's How It Works: The Single Mom KC is peer-led and highly collaborative, with trained single-mother leaders implementing a majority of its programming. Each month, moms gather for Pursuit, a free dinner and program for moms and kids, as well as workshops to build practical skills and a boutique called Clothed with Dignity where moms can shop at no cost. The need is real: 40% of children in Kansas City are growing up in single-parent homes, and 46% of children in single-mom families live in poverty, that’s four times the rate of married-couple families.
Why It Aligns with Our Mission & Values: As a church, our call is to love our neighbors and care for the vulnerable. The Single Mom KC is rooted in the same heart. Christ-centered, radically loving, and committed to hope and healing. Their vision is to build communities of hope that empower single mothers to lead solid, stable, thriving families. By partnering with this ministry, OPCC can move from intention to action, turning our love for our community into real, tangible support.
The Impact & Opportunity For Our Church: Every time a single mom finds community instead of isolation, every time a family gets the resources they need to stay stable, we're part of that. OPCC has an opportunity to volunteer, give financially, and build relationships with families in our area who need exactly what the local church has to offer. This is discipleship in action.
